Fluoride salts

FLiNaK & FLiBe

Our fluoride catalog covers the two salts most central to molten salt reactor research: the FLiNaK ternary eutectic, and off-eutectic FLiBe supplied to your target LiF:BeF₂ ratio.

454°CeutecticLiF845°CKF858°C46.5 LiF – 11.5 NaF – 42.0 KF (mol %)

FLiNaK

LiF–NaF–KF

The standard low-melting ternary fluoride eutectic used across molten salt reactor loops, corrosion coupons, and electrorefining studies. Single-phase melt down to 454°C with well-characterized viscosity and heat capacity.

Composition
46.5 LiF – 11.5 NaF – 42.0 KF (mol %)
Melting point
454°C
Purity
≥ 99.9% (metals basis); O²⁻ < 300 ppm; corrosion-relevant transition metals < 50 ppm
Packaging
Argon-sealed pucks or granulate, 250 g – 25 kg, moisture-controlled below 20 ppm H₂O
Typical applications
  • MSR primary and secondary coolant simulant loops
  • Structural alloy corrosion testing (Hastelloy-N, SS316, Ni-based)
  • Electrorefining and electrodeposition research
  • Thermophysical property benchmarking

FLiBe

LiF–BeF₂ (off-eutectic)

Supplied off-eutectic so the LiF:BeF₂ ratio can be tuned to your tritium breeding, viscosity, or neutron-economy target rather than fixed to the melting-point minimum. Melting point shifts with ratio — we confirm the liquidus for your specific composition before shipment.

Composition
Custom LiF:BeF₂ ratio, typically 66:34 to 80:20 (mol %) — customizable
Melting point
460°C (typical, ratio-dependent)
Purity
≥ 99.9% (metals basis); beryllium content certified per batch; moisture < 20 ppm
Packaging
Beryllium-handling controlled packaging, sealed under argon, shipped with full COA and SDS documentation
Typical applications
  • Tritium breeding blanket salt studies
  • High-temperature reactor coolant research
  • Beryllium fluoride chemistry and redox control studies
  • Custom viscosity / neutron-economy tuning
